At the age of 11 Liying Zhu was accepted to study in China’s most famous guitar class, led by Professor Chen Zhi at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music.
During that time she won some awards in international youth competitions like the Christopher Parkening Youth Guitar Competition, the youth divions of Forum Gitarre Wien and the Guitar Foundation of America.
After graduating at the Beijing Central Conservatory she started her Master’s degree in 2013, studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln/Wuppertal with Prof. Alfred Eickholt.
In 2014/2015, she won three first prizes at important international competitions including the guitar competition at the Nuertingen International Guitar Festival. Since then she has been travelling internationally as a soloist and as a member of the Beijing Angels Quartet performing throughout Asia, Europe and the USA.
In 2015 Liying Zhu gave her solo debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York.
